Pinehurst, N.C.--Denny Shute (left), of the Brae Burn Country Club, West Newton, Mass., and Jimmie Thomson of the Shawnee Country Club, Shawnee-on-Delaware, Pa., shown with the trophy for which they matched strokes in the thirty-six-hole final round of the Professional Golfers Association championship play on the links of the Pinehurst Country Club here Nov. 22. To reach the top rung in the tournament, Shute defeated Wild Bill Melhorn, unattached, of Louisville, Ky., while Thomson eliminated Craig Wood of the Hollywood Golf Club, Deal, N.J., in the semi-finals.
