1st subject, top center: An anatomist dissects a human head, by the light of a lantern. 2nd subject, top left: The wash-house of Meudon. 3rd subject, top right: The streets of the Old Lantern where Gerard de Nerval has just been found hanging (1855). 4th subject, left center: An anatomist feels a corpse with one hand and takes notes with the other by lamp light. 5th suject, right center: An anatomist feels a corpse before putting his scalpel in it. 6th subject: Willows at at the edge of a muddy brook; at left, two men one of whom pulls with difficulty something from the bottom of the water.
