Dr. Patricia O'Connor is proud of the fact that she is probably the only woman veterinarian regularly employed in a U.S. zoo. She has charge of some 600 animals at the Barrett Park Zoo in West Brighton, Staten Island. She is shown here examining the heart action of the chimpanzee in the zoo's hospital. Head keeper Alan Hutchins holds chimp's arms up to aid the doctor.
