Old Lighthouse Lenses Available on Loan. A Coast Guardsman examines an old-style lighthouse lens. School, museums, and maritime societies may borrow this lens and many other old lenses from the Coast Guard. Because of the change from oil to electricity, other scientific improvements, and modern design, these old lenses, still in excellent condition, have been retired from active service. The Coast Guard will try to give any institution borrowing a lens a picture of the lighthouse where the lens was used and a brief history of it. The lenses are now in storage in various parts of the country. Interested organizations should request further information from Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, D. C., stating the type and size of lenses desired, and the institution to which the material should be forwarded. The cost of transportation from the Coast Guard storage depots to final destination will have to be borne by the institution requesting the material.
