In the foreground flows the Clyde, chiefly in shadow. It is crossed on the left by a bridge, of which only half of one span is visible. Above it rises a tall church tower and other buildings. Across the river stands the old Court-House, its stone facade in strong sunlight; beyond the deeply shaded end a row of houses extends to the right edge of the plate. The smoke strengthened, and much new work in the sky, the upper portion be in covered by a tangle of dry point lines with fairly strong burr. A little post or flag-staff, which rises above the shaded end of the Court-House, is inconspicuous, being no darker than the sky behind it.
