After officially proclaiming the week of May 24-31, 1968, "Candy Week in Massachusetts," Governor John A. Volpe receives a sweet token of appreciation from "Miss Candy of 1968" (Pamela Proctor, 22, 1967-68 Miss Massachusetts) and Richard S. Gates, President of the candy firm of Charles N. Miller Co., Boston. The proclamation was made in honor of U.S. candy manufacturers who will be attending the 85th annual convention of the Chicago-based National Confectioners Association, opening May 25, at the Sheraton-Boston Hotel here. Mr. Gates is program chairman for the candy conclave which is expected to attract some 2,000 candy industry men and women.
