Mother talks to runaway daughter

Mrs. Mary Carpenter (R) of Elwood,Ind.,and her daughter, Verna Jean Parrill, 18, have a brief chat prior to a hearing today at which Miss Parrill was released in $1,000 bail. The girl was being held as a material witness in the case of Donald N. Brown, 44, accused by the FBI of living with her in nearby Ithaca. Brown, father of four children, was one of Miss Parrill's high school teachers in Elwood.
