Pearl Two--The question is: which is the real La Peregrina, the huge pear-shaped pearl discovered in the 16th century and supposedly first owned by Philip II of Spain. New York’s Parke-Bernet Galleries have a pearl, left, which they say is the authentic one and which goes on the auction block today. However, in Switzerland the Duke of Alba, chamberlain to Victoria-Eugenia, former queen of Spain, says the former monarch has a pearl, right, locked in a safe-deposit box which is the real gem.
