Mrs. Kathryn Batchelder, 23, of Fairlee, Vermont, is shown here. She is being held in connection with the attempted kidnaping of Nancy Joyce, 4-year-old daughter of Albert G. Joyce, Jr., Pelham, N.Y., broker. Mrs. Batchelder, who was little Nancy's nurse, is said by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents to have taken the little girl to a rented "hideout" room at Mount Vernon. A letter received at the Joyce home demanded $30,000 for the safe return of the youngster. According to the F.B.I., she later repented her act and returned the youngster unharmed to her home.
