Legros, Alphonse, 1837-1911 · 1854

This is a small landscape, possibly the environs of Dijon, the artist's birthplace. His initials "A.L." and the date "1854" are engraved in the lower left corner of the plate, and it is probably Legros's earliest etching, having been made when the artist was but 17 years of age. It was found at an old print-shop in Paris, and when first seen was folded across the middle; the crease mark is still visible.
