Ralph J. Hoge is shown as he went on trial for his life in connection with the spanking-death of his six-year old son, John. The 28-year old father is said to have whipped the child, with an army belt because the child refused to tell him where he had hidden a toy hammer. Hoge admits spanking the child and said the last words the child spoke were, "I love you daddy." To this day, Hoge says he does not know the whereabouts of the disputed toy hammer.
