On a normal weekday morning in New York City's subways, workers riding to their jobs read their morning newspapers as shown above. On 9/17, the subway riders were without their newspapers as a strike against the New York Times and a retaliatory shutdown by other publishers halted production of seven of the city's eight major newspapers.
