Mock Turtle, the print on top, pictures a pair of elderly suitors cooing over a bowl of mock turtle soup ; a pair of real turtledoves, perched on a branch, are introduced to carry out the allusion. In Puff Paste, the print on bottom, a fat cook is rolling out pudding paste; around her board are spread cooling tarts, apple dumplings, and batter puddings ; a footman is embracing her ample shoulders, and familiarly patting her under the chin.
