Das bemalte Gipsrelief, eine Profildarstellung von Ludwig Feuerbach (1804–1872), ist in einen quadratischen Holzrahmen gefasst. Der bedeutende Philosoph und Anthropologe war eng mit Emma und Georg Herwegh befreundet. Feuerbach selbst sandte das Medaillon 1865 an das Ehepaar Herwegh, worauf Emma am 26. Juli brieflich vermeldete: «Dein Medaillon macht Georg große Freude. Ich finde es schlecht, d. h. unähnlich. In unwandelbarer Freundschaft Deine Emma Herwegh».
