New York – Handshake for Tobin – CIO President Philip Murray (left) shakes hands with U.S. Secretary of Labor Maurice Tobin at the CIO’s annual convention here today. Tobin addressed the convention and told delegates that 45 percent of the nation’s wage earners have failed to obtain cost of living increases in step with rises since January 1950. He said the cost of living index went up 10.1 percent between January 1950 and June 1951.
