The annual dinner of the "New Society of Artists" held at the Anderson Gallery, Park Avenue and Fifty-ninth Street, New York. George Bellows was one of the founders of the society. (Bellows) / The Society of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers was formed in October 1919; in 1920 its name was changed to the New Society of American Artists. Bellows had been active in the Society's formation and expounded its ideals in an article that he wrote for "Vanity Fair" in the fall 1920. The unwritten goal of the society was to encourage all of the aspects of modernism that were being completely ignored by the reactionary members of the National Academy of Design. Emma Bellows wrote that the annual dinner in 1923 was held at the Anderson Gallery, Park Avenue and Fifty-ninth Street, New York. (Mason)
