A New Gavel 112 Years Old. This gavel, made from New England white pine taken from the roof of the White House in Washington after 112 years service, will be presented to the New England Council at its Manchester, Vt., meeting next Saturday. It is the gift of the National Lumber Manufacturers’ Association, and will be enclosed in a box, also of New England white pine, given by the New England division of the National Association of Wooden Box Manufacturers. The gavel is made from a beam placed in the White House rood after it was burned in 1814 by victorious British soldiers.
