Joanne Alford, 24, of Baltimore, Md., was selected today as "Miss Airpower of 1956" by the Air Force Association after a nationwide contest among women pilots. She is a licensed pilot and an aeronautical engineer employed at the Glenn L. Martin plant in Baltimore. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., the brown-haired, brown-eyed beauty has been flying since 1951. She received her BS degree in air transportation engineering from Purdue University.
