Flora G. Calderon, Laredo midwife, works in her hospital in Laredo where she delivers hundreds of babies each year to mothers who come across the border from Mexico to give birth to their offspring. Mrs. Calderon's fee is $150 including predelivery check-ups as compared to the $800 and up charged by hospitals. Children born at Mrs. Calderon's clinic can claim United States citizenship.
