Pittsburgh, Pa. ... The four-year-old slaying of 15-year-old Margaret Bankowski, bludgeoned to death near her Ambridge, Pa., home, may be solved with the placing of a murder charge against Mrs. Katherine Smutko, 41, wife of a steelworker. Mrs. Smutko's husband, Nicholas, whispers comforting words to her at a hearing before a justice of the peace yesterday at which she was held for court on a murder charge. The state contends Mrs. Smutko killed the girl in a "mistake" slaying, believing the victim was Mrs. Sophie Bankowski, Margaret's Mother. Mrs. Smutko has admitted "dating" Zigmond Bankowski, the girl's father.
