Miami: Hurricane Betsy threw her full 140 mph fury at the Florida Keys early 9/8, driving more than 18,000 Floridians from their homes and piling up a mounting toll of destruction. At 6 a.m. EDT, according to the weather bureau, part of the 40-mile-wide calm eye of Betsy had moved over Key Largo, about 40 miles due south of Miami.
