Memorandum in Spy Investigation-This is part of a state department memorandum released by the House Un-American Activities committee Thursday. It was one of "pumpkin papers" turned over to the committee in its spy probe by Whittaker Chambers. Dated Dec. 31,1937, it is from Charles Darlington, assistant chief of trade agreements division, to his chief, Harry C. Hawkins. It refers to a possible U.S.-German trade pact. Penciled notations are the committee's.
