Bellows, George, 1882-1925 · 1923
A satire. (Bellows) / The pose in "Married Couple" is formal. The older man is drawn in dark tones, while in contrast, his young wife, standing slightly behind him, appears in radiant white. A satire on their circumstance, "Married Couple" shows none of the warmth of "Auntie Mason and Her Husband" (M. 180), or "In the Subway" (M. 88). (Mason)
