Charles town,w.va. -- Miss Carrie Lee Gardner Strider, 36, wears her badge of office and takes up position just inside her office door to greet well-wishers after she was appointed sheriff of Jefferson county to fill out the term of her deceased father. She's been chief deputy since 1937.
