Karen Woods-Forney examines “La Peregrina” - the wandering pearl of history - which will be sold at auction 1/23 at the Parke-Bernet Galleries here. Discovered in Panama more than 400 years ago, the pear-shaped pearl weighing 203.84 grains was worn by Mary I. “Bloody Mary.” of England and later by a succession of Spanish royalty. Later is passed to the Bonapartes and then to the English Marquess of Abercorn.
