Near the intersection of Broadway and Madison Avenue, New York, an immense excavation has been made for the foundations of a new building; its walls are shored up, and a tall crane rises from a platform near the bottom of the pit. Part of the dark shadow on the road, just in front of a motor-car, has been burnished out, the cleared patch beginning 4 1/2 in. from the top of the plate and 9 in. from the right side of the print. Several cars in the street to the left have been re-touched.
