Luke Sewell Becomes new Pilot of Browns. St. Louis. MO.-Luke Sewell, coach of the Cleveland Indians, who has been signed to replace Fred Haney as manager of the St. Louis Browns. Sewell, veteran American League Catcher, will serve as pilot the remainder of this season and next season under the contract. He broke into organized Baseball with the Indians in 1921. Directly from the University of Alabama Campus. In 1933 he was traded by the Indians wo Washington and in 1935 to the White Sox with which team he stayed until 1938. He took a job as player-coach with the Cleveland team, catching a few games in 1939. He has been of the active list since.
