The tall buildings which give the plate its name extend in an irregular and broken line on the farther side of a sheet of water to the left. Near the middle, but somewhat to the right, is a square church tower with high pinnacles. A man sits at the end of a barge moored alongside of the quay in the foreground. There is a mark in the sky near the top of the plate, 2 in. from the left side.
