The tall buildings which give the plate its name extend in an irregular and broken line on the farther side of a sheet of water to the left. Near the middle, but somewhat to the right, is a square church tower with high pinnacles. A man sits at the end of a barge moored alongside of the quay in the foreground. The mark in the sky has been erased.
