He Learns to Smoke in the Open. The Indian boys on the Glacier National Park Reservation don't have to hide behind the barn to get their smokes. The Pipe of Peace is an "honorable institution" and the young ones are supposed to learn how to puff with poise. The first smoke does not make them sick, however as they use kinnikinnick instead of tobacco. Here you see one of the younger tribesmen hitting the pipe.
