The Wampanoag peace pipe, symbolic of friendship between Pilgrims and Indians on first Thanksgiving was presented to Governor Sargent in recognition of his efforts to achieve peace and brotherhood among all men. After receiving The Wampanoag's token of admiration for him, Governor Sargent and Chief Jeffers discussed the many problems confronting Massachusetts' Indian population and ways of solving them.
