(Bellows) / This lithograph appeared in "Century Magazine" in May 1923, illustrating "Nemesis," by Mary Johnston, a story about a fictitious black man who was accused of attacking and killing a white woman. In the story all the men involved in the burning subsequently fall upon misfortune. (Mason)
