Long Island's Worst Drought Ruins Crops. Long Island's worst drought in many years has completely ruined crops of the season's first plantings. Many farmers are plowing their fields under in hope that rain will fall in time for a second planting. Joseph J. Rhodes, New Hyde Park, L.
