Navy Will Treat Pacific Lepers. On tiny Tinian Island in the Pacific, the U.S. Navy is completing construction of a temporary leprosarium, shown below, with facilities for treating a hundred patients, natives of the Marianas, Marshalls, Carolines, Palaus and Yap. Until now the only treatment they did get was to be segregated as outcasts by their neighbors. Above, is a typical native hut on Yap in which lepers live their isolated lives in an area set aside from the inhabited parts of the island.
