Lamplighting at Dusk Still Continues .. A familiar sight to remote south side Chicagoans is the lamplighter who rides his wheel slowly from block to block stopping at every corner and lighting his old time gas-fed street lights. Ancient and out-moded perhaps but the few remaining are lights are faithfully tended by a lamplighter who carries a blowtorch, a can of oil and has a definite lighting technique for each lamp so it will cast forth the proper mellow glow..
