Living quarters for Roscoe, a migrant worker, are a dilapidated shack set in the orchards of a farm near Hudson, N.Y., where he's working for the cherry picking season. Most of the migrant laborers live in one-room cabins, with rudimentary kitchens, a bare minimum of furniture and a common washhouse. Those who live and travel the migrant route are subject to a special kind of poverty. Living from day to day, they rarely stay in one place long enough to qualify for benefits available to others in the same poverty levels.
