Indians Have Celebration. Beautifully embroidered costumes were worn by Indians who took part in the historically significant Crane Dance, presented for the first time in many years at the celebration of the anniversary of the signing of the Stevens Indian Peace treaty. which was drawn up after Indian wars in 1885. Frank Hillaire of the Lummi tribe gazes thoughtfully into space as if remembering days when ceremonial dances were more frequent and there were no paleface photographers to interrupt and order the performers around. His head covered with a weird headdress of crane feathers, is Joseph Hillaire, son of Frank.
