Lima: Officials said 6/1 the city of Huaraz, 180 miles northeast of Lima, was "destroyed" during the mighty earthquake which rocked Peru 5/31, bringing down homes and buildings and leaving dead and buildings and leaving dead and injured over an area spanning half the country. Another city hit hard by the quake was Chimbote, 260 miles north of Lima.
