An anti-Catholic temperance cartoon. To the left a group of officials debates the licensing of a tavern in Massachusetts in 1840. To the right the Pope sells licenses to rob and to murder in Rome in 1520. The characters in both pictures use the same arguments to justify their licensing procedure.
