Husband and wife accused as rapists

John M. Liggett, 23, and his 18-year-old wife, Shirley Ann, parents of a seven-months-old baby, are shown after their arrest in Chicago in connection with the raping of a 14-year-old high school girl. the Liggett's were taken into custody when the young victim of the attack served as bait in a trap set by the police after she had made her complaint. the girl's story is that the couple offered her a ride home on Wednesday night. in the car, the girl said, Liggett made improper advances, and when she resisted, Mrs. Liggett seized her arms and held her while her husband attacked her.
