Hurricane Inez' 160 mile-an-hour winds roared into the tin-shacked southern mountains of the Dominican Republic 9/29 and buffeted the capital of Santo Domingo with powerful gales. The storm thundered across the Barahona Peninsula and made for valley's where it could funnel up into the heart of Haiti. A Hurricane alert was posted in Cuba. At least 15 persons were killed on the French island of Guadeloupe (bottom map), where the storm struck 9/27.
