Hurricane Cleo, which left 14 persons dead on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, closed in on Hispaniola 8/24 with winds up to 140 miles an hour. The southern parts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which share the island, were expected to get the brunt of it. This newsmap locates Cleo as of 6 a.m. (EDT) according to an advisory from the San Juan weather bureau.
