Hurricane Cleo slashed a 150-mile long path of destruction up the Florida gold coast 8/27 taking dead aim at this missile center with 100 MPH winds. The Air Force predicted the eye of the shrieking tropical twister would pass over the Cape area between 6 & 7 P.M. EST rather than passing to the west as had been earlier believed. Five big rockets have been lashed to their launching pads, and an Atlas ICBM taken off the pad and put into a shelter. The storm has left 122 dead in the Caribbean and untold millions worth of property damage in its wake.
