Hurricane Cleo after pounding Miami mercilessly for hours, smashed northward along the gold coast 8/27 keeping its 100 MPH winds over land. A hurricane alert was issued for the big space center at Cape Kennedy, but a late(1 P.M. EST) advisory said the storm had shifted slightly to the west and “it now appears the hurricane will pass to the west of Cape Kennedy and very near Daytona Beach” late 8/27. In its wake lay 122 dead in the Caribbean and millions in property damage.
