Hurricane Alma barreled into Cuba’s Isle of Pines 6/8 and aimed its 100-mile-an-hour winds at the United States mainland. Hurricane warnings went up in the Florida Keys and the southwest Florida coast. At 6 A.M. EDT, Alma’s center was located about 80 miles south-southwest of Havana and 200 miles from Key West.
