How Value of Food Dollar Has Shrunk--Butcher Barney Barth and Mrs. Anne Healy of Chicago compare stacks of food that $5 would buy in 1941 and what it purchases today. In 1941 the assortment included two pounds of butter, three dozen eggs, three (inch and a half thick) round steaks and 15 pork chops. The 1947 assortment has shrunk to one pound of butter, a dozen eggs, one thin round steak and seven pork chops.
