"Iron Lung" Ice Fishing Contest -- An estimated 3,500 ice fishermen turned out in near-zero weather today to fish in an area laid out to resemble an iron lung used for certain victims of infantile paralysis. The design was made by snowplows. The semi-circle at one end of the design represents the place where the patient's head protrudes. The two circles represent observation portholes. The largest fish caught through the ice was a five and a half pound northern pike. Some proceeds of the event went to the March of Dimes. The contest was sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Forest Lake, a short distance north of St. Paul.
