Bellows, George, 1882-1925 · 1923
This detailed study, with no distracting background, attempts to illustrate the dignity of old age. Many critics, including those who did not favor most of Bellows' work, considered his depiction of children and older people to be his finest and most sensitive work. This work did not appear in either version of Donn Byrne's "The Wind Bloweth, but was probably inspired by Mrs. Dolan, a character in the novel. (Mason)
