Found clubbed and shot

Denham Springs, La. -- This is a recent photograph of Harvey Smith and his family who were found shot and clubbed in Denham Springs, La., yesterday. Chief Deputy Sheriff Odom Groves of Livingston Parish (County) said Smith shot his wife and their children with a .22 caliber pistol, then struck the children with a clawhammer before turning a 12-gauge pump shotgun on himself. Left to right are Kenneth, 8; Kathy, 12; his wife Sarah, Janice, 10, the only survivor; and Kevin, 6. Smith was an English professor at Southeastern Louisiana College in nearby Hammond.
