Former Newark, N.J. mayor Hugh J. Addonizio (shown in 1969 filer) and four others were convicted late 7/22 of extortion and conspiracy charges in a kickback scheme the government said netted $1.4 million from contractors doing business with the city. The federal court jury of seven men and five women deliberated just five hours before finding all five defendants guilty on all counts in the 64-count indictment.
